It is kind of hard to explain why you would start blogging and then not update it for a long time. So, i will just skip that discussion.
This is my first blog from a linux machine (Ubuntu). I always wanted to use linux for my daily computer needs. However, windows just seem to be more friendly with what i wanted to accomplish when i sat in front of the terminal. Until one day when my windows gave up on me and showed me the dreaded BSOD. Now i had the option of fixing BSOD and getting back to windows. or i could just use the ubuntu 9.04 that i had installed when i desired to dual boot my machine. I went with the 2nd choice. Since, then i have been learning a lot everyday. Now, i love to work on ubuntu. I love my linux command terminal. I feel i can do a lot with it. Wait till i claim that i am an expert on linux commands and then i will unleash the fury.
One thing that i was unable to do on ubuntu was get a root access. I was always wondering if i set the root password which i cannot seem to remember. So i searched online for this issue and found this great link on how to set password for root on ubuntu.
Following are the steps.
1) Login as normal user
2) open the terminal
3) Type sudo sh
You are asked for your password.
Upon authentication you get the root shell.
4) Define password for the root by typing sudo passwd at the root shell that you got.
5) Enter the password you desired for the root.
6) exit the shell and you get back your user prompt.
There you go, u got root credentials.
